And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. John 1:14.
In the preceding scriptures we have been given access to a great mystery. The Word is God and was with God and became flesh as Jesus. The Word is God and the Word is Jesus. The Word is also the scripture’s. We commune with God and we commune with Jesus when we commune with the scriptures. Communion with the unadulterated scripture is the only way of being sure to maintain a relationship with God and a lifestyle that is pleasing to him. We may not always receive God from a minister or attending a church service or talking with another human being who seeks to tell us about God because all these things can be corrupted by the world but the unadulterated scriptures without fail brings us into communion with God and Jesus.
Scripture is the nourishment of any Christian walk. Without communing with scripture we have no ability to resist the corrupted by the philosophy of this world. We have said in previous lessons that the fall of humans and all subsequent deceptions have been caused by humans ignoring the Word of God and choosing our own philosophy as to how to live. We are assaulted every minute of our existence with the world’s attempt at corrupting us into following its system and philosophy. Our only way to win this battle is with the sword of the spirit and we in previous lessons have discussed that the spirit’s Sword is the Word of God.
The battle for the Christian is not between good and evil but between God’s Word and the basic philosophy of the World. It is foolish to say that unless people in the world know God they will do nothing of value. There are atheists that give to the poor are kind to their neighbor and live the best ideals this world have to offer but this is not the issue. The issue is being reconciled to the living God. The religion of Cain looked very good; as good as the communion of Able but it was not accepted by God.
We have discussed in previous lessons the corruption of humans at the fall and how our best efforts fall terribly short of what God intended humans to be. Even though our best efforts fall terribly short God has instituted a way to reconcile even fallen humans to him and also give us the ability to commune with him. This communion was established through the Word of God as Jesus and it is maintained and flourishes through the Word of God as scripture. The scripture is the essential life’s blood of the Christian walk.
