THE AFFECT OF THE THREE PRONGED ATTACK
-Adam before the fall was a very different being than after the fall. Before the fall Adam was in tune with God through the spirit that God breathed into him in Genesis 2:7. The spirit of God breathed into Adam gave him the ability to operate according to his spirit which was in tune and communion with God. Adam would wake in the morning when his spirit woke him. He would nourish his body when his spirit led him to. The quantity of food that he ate was regulated by his spirit. Everything thing Adam did was initiated by his spirit.
-Adam after the fall could no longer follow his spirit exclusively. Partaking of the knowledge of Good and evil in disobedience to God caused his own will to become the decision maker instead of his spirit. Adam began to override his spirit with what he thought and felt. When Adam woke in the morning now his will could choose to override his spirit and sleep in. When Adam ate a meal his will could override his spirit and eat more than he should. He could even eat before it was time because his spirit was no longer in charge of his behavior. The knowledge of good and evil doomed Adam to living less than a total spiritual life which by definition is death.
-Adam was doomed because when he ate one half teaspoon more food than the spirit led him he was a glutton. When Adam slept one half second longer than the spirit led him he was a sluggard. If he became angry for one half second for no spiritual reason he was acting as a murderer. The seed of all disobedience was planted when Adam had the ability to choose evil which is anything other than the spirit of God's leading. In this fallen condition the seed of every sin is already within us. If we sometimes resist the actions born from our condition it still does not mean we have escaped the condition. Adam and all mankind was doomed to living less than God's life and spiraling deeper and deeper into death.
-Adam shows us the condition of fallen man outside of the grace and forgiveness of Christ. The entire history of the struggle of mankind is a history of bondage to our nature born out of the ability to choose evil.
NEXT WEEK: ADAM'S OTHER CHOICE.
