-The first emotions felt by Adam and Eve after the fall was shame and fear. Shame because now they understood the possibilities for sin and their mind went immediately to it. For them not to think of the potential for sin would be to ignore the elephant that had just landed in the room. In Gen3:7 Adam and Eve covered themselves for shame. Being covered did not solve the problem. No amount of covering of our bodies or covering what we think and feel can turn a man or a woman's mind from sin. We have acquired knowledge of sin through our sin nature inherited through Adam. The problem for Adam and Eve, and for us, is that there was no longer the ability to be ruled by pure love but the possibility for selfish motivations influenced everything. So the need to try to cover our ability to selfishly hurt one another was the birth of shame.
Shame is the natural state of fallen human beings.
- Fear was felt because the possibility of selfish sinful motivations concerning each other meant that they now knew that they could betray each other, and that every interaction from that day forward would be colored by emotions and desires that did not spring from God's love. In short they could not trust each other’s motives implicitly anymore which caused the birth of fear. Shame and fear are the opposite of love not hate. At the point where we can feel fear or shame in our relationship with other humans is the point where our love fails and hyperemotionalism* takes over. It should not come as a surprise to us that none of our emotions can be trusted outside of the word of God because we our trapped by our inherited fallen nature in selfish emotions. If we are honest with ourselves the percentage of our emotions that are not colored with some part of our selfish wants and needs is minuscule. Our only chance at true love is through the word of God and the guidance that it gives.
